FAQ’s
Every beginning comes with questions. Here are a few answers to help you find your footing.
-
A doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. That might look like helping you prepare for birth, talking through your options, suggesting comfort measures and labour positions, supporting your partner, or simply being a familiar, reassuring presence when you need one.
My role isn't to make decisions for you, but to help you feel informed, supported, and confident making the decisions that feel right for you.

Birth doesn't look one particular way, and neither does doula support.
Whether you're planning a home birth, hospital birth, birth centre birth, VBAC, or planned cesarean, I'm here to support you. My approach is always centred around your individual needs, preferences, and the kind of birth experience you're hoping for.

There's no perfect time! Some families reach out as soon as they find out they're pregnant, while others connect much later.
Booking earlier allows us more time to get to know one another, build a relationship, and prepare together. I take a limited number of births each month, so reaching out sooner is always a good idea, but you're welcome to inquire at any stage of pregnancy.

Our prenatal visits are really an opportunity to get to know one another and explore what matters most to you.
We'll talk about your hopes and concerns, birth preferences, the physiology of labour, comfort measures, partner support, informed decision-making, and preparing for postpartum. Depending on your package, we'll also spend time practising hands-on labour positions and coping techniques.
These visits are about so much more than creating a birth plan. They're about building connection and helping you feel prepared for whatever birth brings.
-
Advocacy is an important part of doula support, but my role is to help you advocate for yourself rather than speak on your behalf.
I'll encourage you to ask questions, understand your options, and feel confident expressing your preferences and concerns. I can help you navigate conversations with your care team, remind you of questions you wanted to ask, and create space for you to make informed decisions without feeling rushed.
I won't make decisions for you, provide medical advice, or speak on your behalf without your consent.
I work for you, not your healthcare provider or hospital. My priority is helping you feel informed, heard, respected, and supported throughout your birth experience.
-
Postpartum support is about caring for the person who has just given birth, not only the baby.
That might mean preparing a nourishing meal, helping with light household tasks, offering infant care so you can rest or shower, talking through your birth experience, or connecting you with trusted resources when you need additional support.
I believe mothers deserve to be nurtured, too. My goal is to create space for you to rest, recover, and settle into this new chapter with the support you deserve.
-
You betcha! You don't need to have me at your birth to receive postpartum care.
I offer standalone daytime and overnight postpartum doula support for families in Edmonton and surrounding communities. Whether you need a few hours of practical help or some extra hands overnight, we can talk about what would feel most supportive for your family.

Innate Beginnings provides birth and postpartum doula support in Edmonton, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Sturgeon County, Parkland County and Strathcona County.
If you're a little farther outside these areas, please reach out! I'd be happy to chat about your location and whether we can make it work.

It all starts with a conversation!
Fill out my contact form and tell me a little about yourself, your estimated due date, and the support you're looking for. From there, we'll arrange a complimentary, no-pressure consultation to get to know one another, talk through your questions, and see if we're a good fit.
There's no expectation to book. Just an opportunity to connect.

I do! bsolutely! My private childbirth education workshop is available to anyone, whether or not you've booked me as your birth doula.
This hands-on workshop is designed for you and your birth support partner to feel more informed, prepared, and confident heading into birth. We'll explore the physiology of birth, stages of labour, comfort measures, labour positions, informed decision-making, and practical ways your partner can support you throughout the experience.
My approach goes beyond simply learning what happens during birth. It's about understanding your body, exploring your options, and giving both you and your partner the knowledge and practical tools to navigate birth together.
Still wondering if doula support is right for you?
You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out. Sometimes a simple conversation is the best place to begin.
